The principal investigator, Dr. Petra Fromme is responsible for the overall coordination of the MPID Center. She oversees all activities of the center and fosters interactions between the members of the center. In addition, she will plays an essential role in the following:
  • Large-scale growth of cells
  • Large-scale purification of target membrane proteins
  • Characterization and functional investigations of target proteins with biophysical and biochemical methods
  • Determination of the physical-chemical parameters of the process of crystallization of membrane proteins from detergent micelles
  • Implementation of seeding techniques
  • Development of a high throughput dialysis reactor
  • Novel Design of crystallization screens
  • Development of new technologies for the determination of phase diagrams; development of a dialysis crystallization robot and automated seeding techniques
  • Crystallization and X-ray structure determination of target membrane proteins
