Responsibilities within MPID include crystallizing membrane proteins in lipidic systems including the cubic phase and bicelles, and structure determination using macromolecular crystallography.
  • Large-scale purification of target membrane proteins
  • Biochemical, biophysical and functional characterization of target proteins
  • Identifying and structurally characterizing lipidic mesophases in the presence of lipid and other relevant additives using small-angle X-ray scattering
  • Monoacylglycerol synthesis and purification in support of the in meso crystallogenesis effort
  • High-throughput crystallization of target membrane proteins by the in meso method
  • Design of new in meso crystallization screens
  • Harvesting and cryo-cooling membrane protein crystals grown in meso
  • Diffraction data collection at minibeamlines at synchrotron X-ray sources and processing same for structure determination and refinement
  • Assisting with the setting up of a robot for in meso crystallogenesis at MPID
